ETHICS

Built from Day One as a B-Corp

Back in 2018 when we first founded Staark, we knew we wanted to run an ethical business – and that’s quite a challenge given the current state of the clothing industry.

After 3 years of product research, development and testing we filed for our B-Corp status in 2021 and were granted B-Corp Pending status.

We achieved this by looking at every aspect of our business and ensuring we took the most ethical approach to every element of our operation.

Our garments are made from ecologically-sound components – where possible our fabrics are made from recycled materials and are themselves recyclable.  No bleach is used during the fabric production process.  Our materials are made in Europe and shipped to our Italian factory for construction.

We identified a number of manufacturing facilities in Italy and picked a family-run business to produce our garments.  We met the staff and were delighted to see how the business has several generations of family working at the factory in rather delightful conditions.

We’re making clothing in batches, all made-to-order so there’s no waste and avoiding the all-to-common problems of having ‘distressed stock’ that ends up in the bin.

As a company our key staff are 50% boys and 50% girls – an equal split that’s reflected in the quality of our clothing for both sexes.

In 2022 we applied for full B-Corp status and were awarded this in April 2022.  For more information on B-Corp and to check out Staark’s status, please click here.
